The theme of the suit: fire

Wands and the element of fire

In the Rider–Waite tradition the wands are linked to fire. This is the suit of the spark, the wish to begin something, and the strength to carry it into action. Wands rarely describe what has already happened; more often they speak of what is about to happen if you decide to move.

Fire has two sides. It warms and inspires, but it can also burn if you act without looking around. That is why the suit holds both enthusiasm and a short temper, as well as the fatigue of burning too fast.
