The language of color

The colors in the Rider–Waite deck are bright and clean, and the artist used them as signs. There is no single dictionary, but there are familiar readings that help you notice the mood of a card.

• Yellow and gold: light, intellect, joy
• Blue: water, depth of feeling, intuition
• White: purity, openness, a beginning
• Red: passion, vitality, action
• Green: growth, nature, fertility

Color suggests a mood but does not dictate an answer.
